OmniUpdate Hosts Largest User Training Conference in Company History


Leading Web Content Management System Provider for Higher Education Welcomes 225 Users to Anaheim, Celebrates Roll-Out of New Version of OU Campus™

Camarillo, CAMarch 18, 2014 — OmniUpdate, the leading web content management system (CMS) provider for higher education, announced today that its annual user training conference was the largest in company history. Held in Anaheim, Calif., March 9-13, more than 225 people from colleges and universities worldwide participated in 63 training sessions.


"We're celebrating the power of ten this year," said OmniUpdate President and CEO Lance Merker. "Compared to our first conference in 2005, we have ten times more sessions, ten times more workshops, and ten times more attendees. Plus we're rolling out OU Campus™ version 10 right now to hundreds of campuses, which will transform our customers' content management experience."


In opening remarks, Merker outlined many of the important new features and capabilities in OU Campus version 10, the company's flagship CMS product, including gadgets, social media mash-up tools, multi-channel analytics, and enhanced mobile administration functionality. Most importantly, the entire product has been opened up for API access, and a software development kit will be released by year end. Developers in the audience were enthusiastic and particularly loved the workshop where they got to code their own gadgets. Michael Gorman, web developer from Illinois Wesleyan University, tweeted, "Most-anticipated session of #OUTC14 starting now: How to Build Gadgets!!!"


Merker also highlighted the company's 2013 milestones:

  • There are more than 45,000 licensed OU Campus users.
  • More than 13 million web pages have been edited by OU Campus users.
  • In response to feedback from users, OmniUpdate filled 234 requests for new features in 2013, making OU Campus even more versatile for use across higher education websites.
  • OU Campus version 10, which is currently rolling out to users, represents the culmination of three years of development by OmniUpdate staff.

In addition to workshops led by OmniUpdate, conference attendees participated in sessions with speakers from 15 colleges and universities, giving users the opportunity to learn from one another about topics ranging from online course catalogs and faculty directories, analytics-based recruitment marketing, and interactive campus maps.


Participants were enthusiastic about rolling out OU Campus version 10 on their campuses, including Robin Kelly, webmaster at The University of Texas at Tyler, who tweeted, "How can we not be excited about these upcoming OUv10 features! Now let's take excitement back to our users!"
