OmniUpdate Releases Version 8.5 of Its Web Content Management Software

New Recycle Bin Feature Enhances the OU Campus Product

Camarillo, Calif. - May 26, 2009 - OmniUpdate, Inc., the leading provider of web content management software (CMS) for higher education, released today the newest upgrade to its web CMS product, OU Campus. This upgrade includes a new Recycle Bin feature.

The Recycle Bin in OU Campus duplicates the intuitive concept of a trash can or recycle bin on a desktop PC or Mac. If a user has rights and deletes a file from the OU Campus staging server, then the file is sent to the Recycle Bin rather than being completely deleted.  It is removed from the CMS directory, along with all past versions of the file. Later, if necessary, the user or any administrator can recover and restore all versions of the file.

Deleted files are removed from both the staging server (editable files) and production server (live, rendered pages). However, files can be recovered and restored to the staging server for immediate republishing to the live production server or sent through the approval process.

Based on their level of authority, administrators have various rights to manage the Recycle Bin. Some administrators can delete files from the Recycle Bin one at a time, while top-level administrators are authorized to modify the Recycle Bin's location and empty the entire bin at once. The location of the Recycle Bin can be anywhere on the web server FTP root or lower. The bin's location, name, and optional visibility to users can all be controlled by administrators of the OU Campus CMS.

According to Lance Merker, President and CEO of OmniUpdate, "Users sometimes panic when they delete a file. CMS administrators frequently get calls from users desperate to get those files back. The new Recycle Bin feature in OU Campus will make it much easier for both users and administrators to correct accidental or intentional deletions.
