So here's a fun thing users can do in OU Campus version 10: they can add an avatar to their profile. Adding an avatar is easier than you might think. In fact, you can actually let Gravatar do the work for you. What's Gravatar, you may ask? According to gravatar.com, "Gravatar is an image that follows you from site to site appearing beside your name when you do things like comment or post on a blog. Avatars help identify your posts on blogs and web forums, so why not on any site?"
Gravatar follows a user to OU Campus version 10 based on the email address of that user, so in various places within the CMS, you can see the avatar associated with the user's name.
In OU Campus, the faceless crowd of users is transformed from this...
...into real people that you can remember. When viewing a list of users, you can easily put a face with a name.
Users can see their avatars at the top of the screen when they're logged in, on their own Dashboard, and when they view their individual settings. When composing a message in the Inbox or when replying to a message, a user's avatar can be seen in conjunction with his or her user name as seen below.
It only takes a few minutes for the image to appear in OU Campus once it has been uploaded to Gravatar. It might require a browser refresh, but really the image just shows up. It's quick. It's easy.
Just remember that each user's email address for the Gravatar account must use the same email address that is used in OU Campus. If you already have a WordPress account, you don't have to create a new account in Gravatar. Simply use your WordPress credentials.
It's just that easy to customize avatars in OU Campus version 10.
