Can Banner Ads Boost Your School's Website Traffic?

pay-per-click advertising conceptYes! Click rates are on the rise, according to the latest data on student engagement.

Digital advertising is leveling the playing field in academia. With the help of Google search, banner ads, and retargeting strategies, your college or university can have a digital presence on the very web pages that prospective students frequent. These ads drive awareness, allow schools to feature offers, and deliver concise messaging.

According to data in the 2018 E-Expectations Trend Report, 67% of seniors and 68% of juniors saw paid ads for colleges and universities, while 41% of seniors and 45% of juniors clicked on paid ads.

So why do students click?

The top reason juniors and seniors gave for clicking on a paid ad was, “I didn’t know about the school and I wanted to learn more.”

What did students do after clicking?

After clicking on a paid ad, 81% of both juniors and seniors looked at information on the school’s website.

Understanding why students click through to your site and monitoring their path after clicking can help you adjust your school’s marketing efforts to better meet prospective student needs.
