Product Platform Improvements Dramatically Increase Power and Efficiency without UI Modifications
Camarillo, California – May 10, 2010 – OmniUpdate, Inc., the leading web content management system (CMS) provider for higher education, released version 9 of its OU CampusTM CMS. Web developers are the primary beneficiary of this new release, as there are no user interface (UI) modifications affecting end-users.
The development goal for version 9 was to significantly increase product power and efficiency by replacing Xalan (XSLT 1.0) with Saxon 9 (XSLT 2.0), thereby establishing the necessary platform for several new feature releases expected throughout 2010 and beyond. A database abstraction was also added to support the use of MySQL and other databases, in addition to Microsoft SQL Server and Sybase ASE.
The move to XSLT 2.0 provides web developers with a true programming language with typed variables and user-defined functions. It offers more than twice the functions and operators available in XSLT 1.0. Additional efficiencies, provided in the declarative language, also offer web developers a significant reduction of code, thus allowing for faster processing speed.
New features include Snippets (pre-defined and formatted code sets) that users can add to pages in the WYSIWYG editor, as well as Final Check, which enforces spell checking, link checking, and W3C compliance testing prior to page publishing. Image Thumbnails, Auto Draft, Save-in-Place, and Source Editor Word Wrap are also part of the release.
Lance Merker, President and CEO of OmniUpdate, states, "Our clients are excited about version 9, which many had a chance to preview during a webcast held on April 20, 2010. The new release gives web developers an extremely powerful platform to develop the functionality required today and well into the future. XSLT 2.0 is light years ahead of XSLT 1.0, even with EXSLT and other scripting languages tacked on."
