OmniUpdate Receives 2014 WIB Youth Opportunity Award

Award Recognizes Employers That Strengthen Ventura County's Future Workforce

Camarillo, CAJune 3, 2014—OmniUpdate, the leading web content management system provider for higher education, has received from the Ventura County Workforce Investment Board (WIB) the 2014 WIB Youth Opportunity Award. This award recognizes employers that offer career awareness and internship opportunities that will grow and strengthen Ventura County's future workforce.

For both entry-level and intern positions, OmniUpdate actively seeks candidates from local colleges such as Moorpark Community College, California Lutheran University, and CSU Channel Islands. Available positions cover a range of jobs across all departments, from Software Development and IT to Sales and Marketing. Internships are paid, three-month positions that are often extended or turn into a full-time position with the company. Since 2012, OmniUpdate has employed nineteen interns and six of those have been converted to full-time employees.

OmniUpdate President and CEO, Lance Merker, has spoken on numerous occasions to students and staff at CSU Channel Islands. These presentations gave attendees a better idea of what it is like to work for a computer software company. In addition, Gabrielle Walker, OmniUpdate Human Resources Manager, shared with the students what companies like OmniUpdate look for in candidates. She has provided students with guidance on resume development and met with the department heads of both Computer Science and Mathematics to seek out and discuss how students could become future hires.

Ms. Walker will receive the award on behalf of OmniUpdate during a public meeting of the WIB on Thursday, June 12, 2014. Ms. Walker said, "OmniUpdate always endeavors to hire candidates from Ventura County colleges and universities for its Camarillo office. We're constantly attending job fairs and reaching out in various ways to the youth in this community. It's exciting to be recognized for that effort."
