Efficiency through a Robust Architecture
Unlike other systems that rely on a proprietary database schema to store page content, OU Campus leverages the speed, efficiency, and openness of XML on the server's native file storage to provide a swift and robust experience. This architecture also results in unlimited scopes, the elimination of deadlocks, and a dramatic reduction in lock contention. OmniUpdate pioneered this engineering practice in OU Campus at the turn of the century, and it has become the standard for today's most successful large-scale enterprise systems.
Databases are great for storing large volumes of small blocks of data; however, there is typically a performance overhead when using a database to store large blocks of data. That is why OU Campus uses its database only where appropriate to store information that it needs to know about your content (e.g., permissions, tags, and other settings). OU Campus can use MySQL, Microsoft SQL Server, or PostgreSQL database systems. And it runs on a separate staging server, so content is published to the live web server on demand. This architecture ensures your website is never throttled by the web CMS application or process. Both static and dynamic pages can be published this way.

Server-side executed SQL calls to Oracle, MySQL, and other databases are allowed on any web page asset.
OU Campus allows integration with any third-party web service or administrative system that supports an open XML (or similar) data exchange protocol. For instance, OU Campus can be used to publish and maintain online course catalogs displaying dynamic data from products such as CurricUNET, PeopleSoft, and Ellucian's Colleague® and Banner®.
Security and Reporting
With OU Campus, you can authenticate against LDAP or Active Directory, or integrate with single sign-on services like CAS and Shibboleth. The system provides automatic system locks for failed login attempts, as well as access tracking and reporting by user IP address.
